A word from the Elvis Festival organiser, Jan du Rand
As people turned off into the main street of our village, they could sense that this is no ordinary place, ELVIS is here and will never leave the picturesque town of Storms River and the PROTEA Hotel Tsitsikamma Village, the official home of the Elvis Festival again.
We would like to thank the Elvis Tribute Artist who were each in their own right a great success to our Festival and made our dream come true to see in South Africa many Elvis Tribute Artists sharing one stage. Shaky Russell and The Memphis Mafia Band were rocking.
Thank you to many Elvis Fans who rocked up to Storms River to enjoy a weekend of celebrating our legend, Elvis Presley and participate in the fun and the hospitality, music and special events of the Elvis festival.
Elvis music shook, rattled and rolled and we invite you to diaries the dates for the 2011 Elvis Festival
Friday 29th April 2011 to Monday 2nd May 2011
Whether you are an Elvis Fan or just beginning to appreciate Elvis, this is the festival Where “Elvis has never left the building” and you cannot miss.
Jan du Rand & the PROTEA Hotel Tsitsikamma Village, home of the Elvis Festival are looking forward to have you here again in 2011 for an even more exciting time.
Why we are passionate about the King
If the amount of tribute artists is anything to go by, Elvis Aaron Presley is without doubt the most popular entertainer of all time. America alone thirty thousand) Even since his death in 1977, the love shown by his fans has not diminished. Whatever his detractors might say, (even now) he remains the undisputed King of Rock 'n Roll! Cliff Richard remarked that he had the most formidable competitor in the world, more so after his death than when he was alive. He even admitted if there were no Elvis Presley, there wouldn't have been a Cliff Richard.
There are hundreds of tribute shows from Las Vegas to Singapore. Places such as Graceland pull in thousands of fans monthly to view the inner sanctum of the King. There have been many musical and theatre events, which started small in S A and became massive. Opikoppi, Cape Town Jazz Festival, to name but a few. The amount of Elvis fans world wide is massive. You could turn it into the most prestigious tribute to the King outside the USA. We in South Africa have always bought the records, seen the movies so we also have a claim to want to remember him without having to visit Graceland.
I have always felt that he needed a place outside the USA as a memorial to his many fans. A kind of Woodstock festival. The question was: where would one find such a place? New Zealand, Alaska, Dubai perhaps? A place to which, once a year, a holiday pilgrimage could be made to.
WELL FOLKS, Glory, Glory, Hallelujah! We have found the location and with it a place, which is owned by someone who is, possibly, one of the most devout fans of the King of Rock ‘n Roll!! The place is The Protea Hotel Tsitsikamma Village!! The aim is to turn this into the most prestigious ELVIS event outside the USA.
All that remains is for me to say. Put on your blue suede shoes, shake rattle and roll. "Let the show begin !!!" because the Protea Hotel Storms River is now ready to rock your world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Some people tap their feet, some people snap their fingers, and some people sway back and forth. I just sorta do 'em all together, I guess." -Elvis in 1956, talking about his way of moving on stage.
"There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king." Bruce Springsteen
